WhatGas Petrol Prices (free)

This android application shows you nearby petrol stations and lets you share fuel prices for petrol stations that you know of, and to see the prices entered by others.

Browse the map to find stations, and click any station flag to view and update prices.

There is now a pro version on the market with even more features.

Unable to reliably click station flags

Hi Chris, Using v1.4.4 on an HTC Desire. Love the app but get very frustrated because I cannot seem to reliably click on a petrol station sign to get its prices pop-up. I have to 'stab-around' numerous times on and around it and eventually I might get lucky. I have no such problems with any other applications. Any ideas? Thanks, Karl.

It's a tricky problem. I already add a bit of padding around the edges of each icon to increase their surface area. However if I add too much it becomes a problem when icons are close together. When this happens, the hidden padding might overlap another nearby icons so when you click on an icon it might activate the wrong station. Unfortunately I'm not sure there is an easy solution to the problem without some sort of nearby detection algorithm which would prompt the user to select which station they were interested in.

Adverts

Do you have any control over the adverts that appear on the app? I'm consistently bombarded with "god" adverts. So far my only complaint! :-D

Yes, I've noticed He does seem to be popular on Android at the moment! I not done anything to specifically promote the divine one.

A paid for version is in the works which will have, among other things, no adds. So for the God free version, watch this space.

What Gas not on Android Market

Hi, I own a HTC Tattoo mobile phone and would find it really useful to have your application on it. However I cannot find it on the Android Market. Does this mean that it is not compatible with the Tattoo and if so do you have any plans to make it compatible? Best regards, James

Hi James,

Currently the app is only available to the UK and Ireland (although we're looking to widen this in the near future).

You also need Android 1.5 or greater (the Tatoo has 1.6 so this should be fine).
